This book has many photographs of the Pacific Islands and its people, with maps drawn by Armstrong Sperry, including one of The Islands of the Southeastern Pacific. Published in 1942, this book was an introduction to an exotic part of the world which few Americans had thought or known much about until Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, was bombed by the Japanese on December 7, 1941, drawing the United States into the war in the Pacific.
